AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D set to launch this month
AMD is already reaching out to tech media outlets and confirming that the first samples of the upcoming 8-core CPU for gamers are on the way. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D was announced last week at CES 2026, perhaps the biggest announcement from AMD so far this year.
Regardless, as we recall, a leak from a French retailer mentioned January 29 as the samples embargo date. Given that we have just learned the review embargo is set to lift on January 28 , this would mean we will get reviews the day prior to sales, which is good. AMD typically also opens preorders on the same day, but it is not set in stone yet, and we have not seen the full embargo details.

AMD has not presented any direct comparison between the 9850X3D and 9800X3D, but AMD used the Core Ultra 9 285K as a reference. While the 9800X3D is 24% faster on average, the 9850X3D is said to be 27% faster. That is a small gap, but AMD already confirmed that both SKUs will continue to be sold at the same time, so it is not a replacement.

In any case, it seems there are not many reviews landing around the same time, except for Intel Core Ultra 300 Panther Lake laptops. Reviewers still have plenty of time for testing, but timing usually depends on when the samples arrive. Well, at least this time, they don’t have any graphics cards to test…
