NVIDIA said to be focusing on 8GB models now
A new report from China claims NVIDIA adjusted its RTX 50 series supply plan for 2026 due to rising memory chip costs.
In mid 2025, the 8GB models were not welcomed with much enthusiasm. Little did we know that higher-capacity memory on graphics cards could soon become a problem.
The most recent report from Board Channels says shipments of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti models are being reduced. It adds that NVIDIA and board partners are re-centering volume around GeForce RTX 5060 and GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB.
This lines up with recent availability chatter around higher tiers. Reports from Europe and Japan have pointed to tight supply for RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and above, with RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 often called out as hard to keep in stock.

If memory pricing keeps climbing, pushing more 8GB cards would be a straightforward way for NVIDIA to keep units moving while using less VRAM per board. What to keep in mind is that this is still rumor-level information, and allocation can differ by region and by partner.
One more thing, the same post also claims further cost increases in the next quarter cannot be ruled out, which could keep pressure on pricing through Q2 2026. So far it seems that RTX 5090 is taking the lead in the record-high prices, and nothing suggests it will stop at this point.
