Intel Xeon 698X “Granite Rapids-WS” confirmed with 86 cores and 336MB L3 cache

Xeon 6 WS confirmed up to 86 cores

Graphite Rapids for workstations, aka the modern successor to the old Core X HEDT series.

A new Geekbench entry has confirmed the specifications of Intel’s flagship Xeon 6 workstation processor, the Xeon 698X , part of the “Granite Rapids WS” lineup. The benchmark lists the chip with 86 cores and 172 threads , clocked at 4.6 GHz  frequency , and featuring a massive 336 MB of L3 cache .

The tested system, identified as Intel Corporation GNR-WS, was running Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS with 251 GB of memory. In Geekbench 6.5, the CPU achieved 2532 points in single-core and 21030 points in multi-core, indicating performance in line with high-end workstation workloads.

Compared to its predecessor, the Xeon w9-3595X , which offered 60 cores and 120 threads based on the Sapphire Rapids architecture, the new model increases core count by nearly 43% and doubles L3 cache capacity. The earlier 3595X typically scored between 2700 single-core and 24000 multi-core. In other words, this benchmark result is likely not showing the CPU’s full potential.

Launch in February?

Intel Granite Rapids-WS was, like Core 200K Plus and the Arc B770 GPU, absent from CES 2026 product announcements. Officially, there is nothing suggesting the series is launching soon. We do have some information, though. One of the companies involved in a previous leak casually revealed to us that the embargo is set to lift in early February , which is likely when the series is expected to launch.

Distributor listings have already hinted at the Xeon 698X’s premium positioning, with pricing around $8,294 for the tray version.
