Report claims PS5 Pro PSSR 2.0 update could land in Q1 2026

A new report says Sony is preparing a PSSR 2.0 update for PlayStation 5 Pro, described as the next step for Sony’s AI upscaling. The claim comes from Japanese leaker Gust_Fan, with a window set somewhere in Q1 2026.

Sony has already talked about the direction. In a March 2025 interview Mark Cerny said Sony’s target is to deliver an upscaler “very similar” to AMD FSR 4 for 2026-era titles, as the next evolution of PSSR. The new rumor also metnions improved quality and performance and frame rate boost for gamers that were otherwise capped to 70 to 80 FPS:

The leak report says PSSR 2.0 could also help older PS5 titles and some classic releases by pushing higher output resolutions than current modes. Support details are unknown, and no official game list has been shared yet.

Some reports mention that frame generation may also be added, which would definitely allow Sony to hit the 4K 120 FPS target with more games. AMD’s current FidelityFX stack separates upscaling and frame generation, so that would be much simpler to implement.
