ASUS shows off next-gen W890 motherboard for Xeon 6 WS series with seven PCIe 5.0 slots

ASUS presents the first W890 motherboard, Intel says they ‘missed it’

The board uses the new LGA 4710 socket and comes in an EEB form factor. ASUS did not confirm a final name, but the branding points to a Pro WS W890-SAGE successor to the Pro WS W790-SAGE SE.

ASUS shows a board with eight DDR5 DIMM slots, seven full-length PCIe slots, and a workstation-class layout in an EEB form factor. The timing and design certainly match the upcoming W890 update.

The board looks quite similar to the W790 version, which also came with 8 memory slots and and seven PCIe slots. We can see there are changes to the IO design, including two visible fans and one missing 8-pin power connector.

ASUS has not shared pricing. This lines up with Intel’s Granite Rapids-WS workstation timeline that we leaked recently. Intel is expected to bring Xeon 6 WS to market in February.

Intel did not mention anything about Granite Rapids at CES 2026, in fact, they retweeted the photo and said they ‘missed it’.

We were so busy looking at all the ASUS #IntelCoreUltra Series 3 systems that we missed this monster! https://t.co/APu4xn6fOU
