INNO3D claims just 15 melted 12VHPWR RMAs across Europe since RTX 4090 launch

INNO3D: “We encounter user-damaged cards more often than cards with a melted connector.”

Are melted connector cases overblown? If so, why are new cases showing up almost every week? There are so many reports that we have only covered the most severe incidents, or cases involving new cards. Still, the issue may not be as widespread as many think, as some board partners have started openly discussing how many cases they have actually seen.

In a reply in an RTX 50 thread on Dutch forums, INNO3D says the company’s Netherlands RMA center has handled “under 15” melted-connector cases across the RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 range. The same post adds that user-damaged cards show up more often than cards returned with a melted connector.

What matters is that INNO3D also states the Netherlands service hub covers “all of Europe, including the East,” and that the figure goes back to the RTX 4090 launch timeframe. Forum users asked for total sales volume, but the INNO3D representative says the support side does not have sales totals, so there is no percentage to attach to the cases. The representative adds that the share is “just a few.”

One thing to note is that INNO3D has a smaller retail footprint than the biggest add-in-board vendors, and visibility in Europe tends to be stronger in DACH (German-speaking) and Benelux retail channels.

RTX 5090 without GPU and memory case

We often discuss blower-style AI cards that are now appearing in China. We always try to make clear that these cards are not using NVIDIA official supply chains. The cards are using GPUs and memory removed from gaming models. The leftover PCBs and coolers are often sold to shady companies that then move them through second-hand markets. Unfortunately, these cases reach all regions, including Europe, and INNO3D says a similar case appeared at its RMA center.

Connector concerns started with RTX 4090-era 12VHPWR reports and have continued into the 12V-2×6 period, even though the connector was revised to reduce partial-seating risk.

Unfortunately, there is no direct fix for melted connectors. We are seeing increased activity from board partners, power supply vendors, and accessory makers trying to ship low-cost add-ons that could warn users before overheating happens. That approach is still a band-aid, and it does not solve the underlying issue.
