Luckily for us, not many reviewers and overclockers follow NDAs. Wherever the source came from, the new screenshot and test results featured the soon-to-be-released Ryzen 7 9850X3D. This is the same 8-core CPU with 3D V-Cache as the 9800X3D, AMD’s top-selling and best-performing gaming CPU for the AM5 platform.

The 9850X3D is essentially a tuned chip with higher clocks. Officially, it will ship with a 400 MHz higher clock out of the box. AMD is advertising a 5.6 GHz boost clock for single-core workloads. Apparently, somebody was already able to reach 5.75 GHz clock with all cores, as per the included screenshot:

The 9800X3D can hit 5.4 to 5.5 GHz on all cores through PBO tuning, or via a fixed all-core setting at around 1.2V. So this result is already higher than that. SkatterBencher’s guides also show how long and complicated the process can be to reach higher clocks through a series of tuning steps. It is possible to hit up to 5.9 GHz in a specific test, but that is not an all-core clock.

As for the score, I assume this is from CPU-Z single-core test, which is averaging at 792 points for 9800X3D. As per the same OC guide, the 9800X3D can hit similar score under the most optimized scenario.

As with most overclocking attempts, it comes down to system configuration, including voltages, memory tuning, and cooling. We know nothing about this particular setup, but since 5.4 GHz all-core was already possible on the 9800X3D with PBO tuning, it should not be a surprise that the 9850X3D can clock higher.
