GPD WIN 5 to become the first AMD Strix Halo handheld to get official Bazzite OS support

GPD Win5 with AMD Strix Halo to receive official adaptation of Bazzite OS

A GPD representative posted on Reddit that “official” work on adapting Bazzite for the GPD WIN 5 has started, and asked users to report issues through Discord.

Bazzite is a Linux gaming OS built as a custom Fedora Atomic image under the Universal Blue project. The project ships Steam pre-installed , and includes a controller-focused “game mode” intended to feel similar to SteamOS on handhelds.

GPD WIN 5 is a Windows handheld PC with integrated game controls and a 7-inch 1080p, 120Hz display. It is built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max platform (Strix Halo), paired with Radeon 8060S or 8050S graphics, depending on the configuration.

There’s definitely some work to be done. In the same Reddit thread, commentators mention mixed results with early Bazzite installs. One user said a recent patch fixed Wi-Fi issues, while others reported poor audio quality, sleep-resume crashes, and rear button functions not working yet.

Audio and microphone behavior is already being tracked upstream. A recent Bazzite GitHub issue references a GPD WIN 5 internal microphone fix and related hardware quirks. However those are not major issues and the handheld already works quite well otherwise.
