2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Topped 4.4 Million in US Alone

Despite launching in what must be one of the worst years for gaming, at least in recent memory, the Nintendo Switch 2 still managed to outsell its predecessor in the US market by nearly double during the same time period. According to Mat Piscatella from research firm, Circana, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 4.4 million units in the US in its first seven months on the market. This makes the Nintendo Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game console hardware platform, according to the analyst, beating out the likes of the Sony PlayStation 4 by 35% during the same relative time period.

Piscatella also shared some insights into the overall state of the video game market towards the end of 2025. In December 2025, total hardware spending increased by 6%, while actual unit sales fell by 8%, meaning that, on average, people spent more, but fewer people bought hardware over the last festive season. The Nintendo Switch 2 sold both the most units of any hardware platform in December and raked in the highest dollar amount. This is likely somewhat attributed to its more recent launch compared to the other console alternatives, which have been available since 2020. Spending on video game accessories was down across the board in December, with spending coming in at $625 million, which is a 7% decline compared to the same time in 2025.
