AMD: Ryzen 7 9850X3D does not need fast DDR5 for near-peak FPS
We obtained a slide from an updated presentation for the upcoming Ryzen 7 9850X3D. One chart focuses on DDR5 pricing and what happens if you cannot run the usual “sweet spot” memory speeds AMD often references.
The slide compares DDR5-4800 and DDR5-6000 using a 2x16GB configuration. AMD says the average FPS gap is under 1% across 30+ games, based on its testing. The examples shown include Cyberpunk 2077, Far Cry 6, Red Dead Redemption 2, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, where the differences range from about +0.2% to +1.6% in the chart.

AMD also ties this to current memory pricing. The company cites PCPartPicker data captured on January 9, when a DDR5-6000 2x16GB kit was listed at about $470, while a DDR5-4800 2x16GB kit was around $400. AMD notes the DDR5-4800 price has risen since then, to roughly $420.

AMD is also claiming about a 3% to 7% performance difference between the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is expected to launch next week.
