RTX 5090 ‘DIY kit’ for $3000

A Reddit post claims an Amazon Resale order for an MSI GeForce RTX 5090 arrived as rocks wrapped in a towel instead of a graphics card. The buyer shared photos of the packaging and the contents after opening the box. One should note that the buyer did not post proof beyond what appears in the thread. However, he claims an unboxing video exists, which helps in disputes, but the footage was not shared publicly.
From what we can see, photos also show an outer protective film on the box. The seal was also poorly applies, which, apart from being an Amazon GPU purchase, is also a big red flag.
Always said this wouldnt happen to me. Genuinely disappointed in the resale team, does not a single person check anything man? the seal was absolutely terrible, come on man. By the way, this is the FOURTH 5090 to be fake or have an issue this month from amazon resale. Unbelievable , i opened the whole thing on camera. I wanted to open it in front of the driver with my ray bans on but i wasnt home. what do i even do?

As we can see, the box appears to have an LPN label, which is commonly used in Amazon fulfillment for returned items that go back into inventory. That suggests the card was previously returned and later resold through Amazon Resale. Why the contents were not flagged during processing is anyone’s guess.
Bought an MSI 5090 from Amazon Resale and got a box of rocks.

One thing I wanted to note is that modern AIB flagships are large and heavy, which gives scammers more room to match shipping weight with filler. It may be easier to trick the systems that check the card’s weight if it’s above a certain level. MSI lists the GeForce RTX 5090 SUPRIM SOC at 2,840 g for the card alone, and 3,695 g for the full package, so rocks can get a box close enough to expected handling weight to avoid attention from basic checks.
The good thing is that the Redditor recorded the opening of the package, as everyone should do in such situations. Unfortunately, there’s no update confirming that Amazon is aware of this particular case, nor if any decision will be made in user’s favor.
