Bazzite team says GPD lied about “official Bazzite” for Win 5 handheld

Bazzite says GPD has no hardware, no contact, and no “official” Win 5 work

GPD is facing pushback after a company representative claimed the upcoming GPD Win 5 is getting an “official” Bazzite Linux adaptation.

As you may recall, last week GPD announced that “The official Adaptation of GPD Win5 is happening” and asked anyone with Bazzite issues to join a Discord server to “consult with Bazzite representer.”

That claim was quickly disputed by Bazzite founder Kyle Gospodnetich. In a message shared on the Bazzite Discord, Gospodnetich dismissed the idea of any official partnership and said there has been no recent contact with GPD. Gospodnetich also said Bazzite’s work is focused on making hardware function, not formal vendor relationships.

A separate correction was later posted in Bazzite’s own channels. The post says GPD claimed an “official Adaptation” was underway and that Bazzite had received hardware, but Bazzite says no hardware arrived and no recent contact took place. The correction also warns users about being directed to Discord servers outside Bazzite’s own support channels, and says Bazzite will not provide support for work outside Bazzite’s control.

The Bazzite post also asks GPD to stop using the Bazzite name, logos, or other intellectual property until the situation is resolved.

GPD post still up

GPD claimed that the Bazzite team even received test units, which could mean that somebody pretending to be part of the Bazzite team scammed the handheld company out of a few test units. The post announcing the ‘official adaptation’ is still listed on Reddit.

The company responded to Gaming On Linux’s Liam Dawe comment, but they have not followed up with further response:

GPD is one of the few companies that designed and launched an AMD Strix Halo gaming handheld. It’s a major blunder from GPD, whether the company was scammed or simply told supporters something untrue.
