Beige PCs are back: MAINGEAR launches Retro98 desktops with up to Ryzen 9 9950X3D and RTX 5090

MAINGEAR Retro98 lineup mixes SilverStone FLP02 retro case design with current-gen specs

MAINGEAR has announced Retro98, a limited-run line of retro-styled desktop PCs built around SilverStone’s FLP02 “beige box” case, but configured with current-generation hardware. The lineup includes an option with AMD’s newly launched Ryzen 7 9850X3D and a top-end build that pairs a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with an RTX 5090.

Retro98 leans hard into late-1990s case details, including a front “Turbo” button and a key lock style control layout from the FLP02 design. I’m not sure how MAINGEAR configured the Turbo button, but according to SilverStone, it is supposed to change fan control to max speed. MAINGEAR also highlights period-style touches like a display on the front panel (with temperature), hidden front I/O, and visible cable styling, while keeping modern cooling support under the hood.
