Reddit user claims AMD RMA swapped a Ryzen 9 7950X3D for 9950X3D

A Redditor “Space_swag” says an AMD warranty RMA for a Ryzen 9 7950X3D ended with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D arriving as the replacement. The user also said the confirmation email listed the new OPN before delivery, so the swap was not a surprise at the doorstep.
AMD warranty rules says AMD can repair the CPU, replace it with the same model or a model with equivalent performance, or refund the purchase price if repair or replacement is not possible. Worth adding that AMD may also ship previously owned, or reconditioned CPUs.
I RMA’d my 7950x3D after it suddenly died on me under warranty. I sent it to AMD and they sent me back a 9950x3D!
I couldn’t find any other examples where AMD customer service sends upgrades to people who send their CPU back under warranty. Is this a normal practice?

But that “equivalent” is not always the spec a buyer cares about. One Redditor said an RMA for a Ryzen 7 5800X3D came back as a Ryzen 9 5950X, which adds cores but drops 3D V-Cache. Interestingly, for that user, AMD did not ask before sending a non-X3D chip. I am not sure about you, but I would not accept it. However, the 7950X3D to 9950X3D seems like a nice upgrade.
