PlayStation Portal OLED refresh set for this year

Sony may be preparing a refreshed PlayStation Portal model for 2026, based on new claims from a well-known leaker. The current PlayStation Portal focuses on remote play streaming, which made it a tougher sell for parts of the handheld gaming crowd that prefers standalone devices.
In a NeoGAF thread, leaker KeplerL2 claimed Sony plans to release an updated PlayStation Portal at some point in 2026. The same post also says the refresh would switch to an OLED panel, replacing the LCD used in the existing device.

PlayStation 6 handheld with RDNA5
The discussion also touched on Sony’s rumored standalone handheld, sometimes described as a portable PlayStation 6 companion. KeplerL2 claimed this system would use AMD’s next RDNA 5 graphics architecture, rather than RDNA 3.5/4-class integrated graphics found in chips such as Strix Halo.
The leak also repeats earlier claims about compute resources, suggesting the handheld would ship with fewer than 40 compute units. Unfortunately, the exact GPU core spec for PS6 handheld are not known, but some reports claim it’s between 20 to 16 Compute Units.
Obviously no specifications have been confirmed by Sony or AMD. The only firm detail in the leak is timing, with the PlayStation Portal refresh described as a 2026 release.
