Multi Frame Generation arrives on AMD hardware first via mods: DLSS Enabler demo targets all DX12 cards

While Intel has released a driver that enables multi-frame generation for Arc B-Series integrated graphics, support has not yet arrived for discrete GPUs. That makes it fair to say only NVIDIA ships multi-frame generation support across consumer GPUs right now, but the feature is limited to the RTX 50 series. Users on RTX 20 and RTX 30 cannot use DLSS frame generation at all, unless they enable FSR Frame Generation or use third-party tools like Lossless Scaling. RTX 40 owners already have frame generation, but only at 2x.

Modders have been exploring ways to bring similar features to a wider range of GPUs. Most approaches rely on third-party tools like OptiScaler, injecting DLSS components, or making a game think a different pipeline is active. DLSS Enabler is one of these tools. The goal is to simplify the process, but it still involves manual file work, as shown in the Ancient Gameplays video. The build is also labeled experimental, so results vary by game. Cyberpunk 2077 is a good example, since it may require multiple launches to work.
DLSS Enabler describes its purpose as: “Simulate DLSS Upscaler and DLSS-G Frame Generation features on any DirectX 12 compatible GPU in any DirectX 12 game that supports DLSS2 and DLSS3 natively.” That wording applies to the 3.x branch, while the newer 4.x tech preview adds features such as Multi Frame Generation and Adaptive Frame Generation.

In a new video, Ancient Gameplays shows 3x and 4x Multi Frame Generation running on top of FSR 3.1 frame generation, with extra logic aimed at reducing interpolation artifacts before frames are generated. Since the mod runs through OptiScaler, the video also shows users combining FSR 4 with multi-frame generation on Radeon RX 7900-series hardware. See AMD? It is possible.

Setup is not one-click in the video. Ancient Gameplays downloads the DLSS Enabler 3.02 installer from Nexus Mods, then applies the 4.0.0.4 tech preview files by copying a DLL into the game folder. For Cyberpunk 2077, the recommendation is to install as winmm.dll instead of version.dll, then rename the tech preview DLL to match before copying it into the game directory. It may take a few tries to run the game, though.
It’s not perfect
Users expecting miracle performance or image quality will be disappointed. The test shows visible artifacts, and 3x multi-frame generation can look worse than expected in motion. You can get similar trade-offs with other third-party tools. The difference is that AMD would not ship an official feature in this state, while some players will still enable it for higher frame rates even with obvious artifacts. Results can also vary by game, and Cyberpunk 2077 is not the best case for artifact-free frame generation.
One more warning matters. This mod should not be used in online games. It manipulates game files and can trigger anti-cheat systems, which can lead to an instant ban. Treat it as a single-player-only tool, or only use it in games without anti-cheat.
