NVIDIA investigates Windows 11 patch linked to game artifacts and FPS drops

NVIDIA is telling some Windows 11 users to uninstall update KB5074109 after reports of gaming instability. This suggestion comes from an NVIDIA staff reply on the company’s official GeForce forums, following complaints tied to Forza Horizon 5.
In the forum thread, Manuel Guzman from NVIDIA said the problems began after a Windows update and that the only known workaround, so far, is removing the patch. The user who posted originally did not mention the update by name, but NVIDIA brought it up directly, which suggests the company has already correlated it with the reports.

So what exactly is happening? Apparently users describe a mix of symptoms. The most common ones are dropped performance and visual corruption, including artifacts and occasional black screens . The reports are not universal, and many systems appear unaffected, but the number has been high enough for NVIDIA staff to publicly acknowledge the issue and say the company is looking into it.
It’s worth adding that it’s not clear if the Windows 11 update is really responsible, given that the issues are reported under NVIDIA’s new driver. It wouldn’t surprise me if the next GeForce driver magically has a fix for these issues.
Keep in mind, it is not a good idea to remove patches manually, unless you are encountering these specific issues.
