NVIDIA GeForce RTX 60 could miss 2027 target

NVIDIA’s reported GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh delay is resurfacing today with a new detail about what comes next. A report from The Information says NVIDIA managers decided in December to hold the refresh and prioritize AI chips due to tight memory supply.
While the report mostly repeats earlier reporting about the RTX 50 SUPER refresh delay , it does add one new point: it claims NVIDIA’s next-generation GeForce RTX 60-series could miss 2027, with mass production originally planned for late 2027 and potentially slipping into 2028.
The same report also says NVIDIA is reducing production of current GeForce RTX 50-series gaming chips, which already face limited retail availability in many regions. This matches what we previously reported about a new prioritization scheme. The approach was meant to avoid creating different SKUs with the same memory configuration. NVIDIA reportedly decided to prioritize certain SKUs, but that does not appear to have helped much.
But in December, Nvidia managers changed plans, telling employees and suppliers the company was delaying Kicker, without offering a new timeline. Nvidia managers said one reason was due to the global memory shortages, which have pushed up prices, and the need to prioritize memory production for the company’s AI chip business, according to the two individuals.

RTX 60 delayed too, it seems
What is new is the claim that RTX 60 might miss a 2027 release window. Reports like this are difficult to verify. Even accurate leakers often do not have visibility into production schedules. The Information says it has new details from “NVIDIA managers.” As we recall, RTX 60 was expected next year, possibly around mid-year. This report suggests mass production would not start until the end of 2027, and it could move into 2028.
The delay will also push back the release of Nvidia’s next-generation gaming GPU. Likely called the RTX 60 series, it was originally scheduled to begin mass production at the end of 2027, according to one of the people.

Of course, we can only assume the report is accurate. The RTX 50 SUPER delay is not new, and the current SKU prioritization is not a new update either. However, the consumer market could change quickly, especially if demand for AI hardware cools. If that happens, it is hard to see NVIDIA waiting more than two years before launching the RTX 60 series.
However, I am quite certain the RTX 5090 will follow the RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 path. It likely will not drop below MSRP for most of its lifespan. Hopefully I’m wrong.
