AMD Medusa Halo “Ryzen AI Max 500” rumor points to LPDDR6 memory support

AMD’s next-generation Halo series, known as “Medusa Halo,” is expected to s upport LPDDR6, claims known hardware leaker “Gray/Olrak29”. That does not mean it will not support other memory standards, but LPDDR6 should increase bandwidth if AMD keeps the same memory bus.
LPDDR6 is expected to raise peak transfer rates versus LPDDR5X, likely in the 10.6 Gbps to 14.4 Gbps range, and it may move to an x12 I/O width. Using the same 256-bit memory bus often associated with Strix Halo, 14,400 MT/s would work out to about 460.8 GB/s of theoretical bandwidth, around 80% higher than Strix Halo. Initially, Medusa Halo may use a slower variant of LP6 memory.
Strix Halo already supports a 256-bit LPDDR5X-8000 memory interface, which equals 256 GB/s of bandwidth. The rumored “Gorgon Halo” refresh in the same table is listed at LPDDR5X-8533, which works out to about 273.1 GB/s on a 256-bit bus.

Medusa Halo: Zen 6 and RDNA 5
Medusa Halo is now said to feature Zen 6 CPU cores and RDNA 5 graphics, while Gorgon Halo and Strix Halo are based on Zen 5 with RDNA 3.5 graphics. As we recently discussed, much of AMD’s 2027-2028 portfolio is expected to remain on RDNA 3.5 . There is also hope that AMD could introduce minor changes that enable FSR 4 support. A related architecture has been spotted under the name “ RDNA 4m. ”
Medusa Halo would be an exception, as it is expected to use RDNA 5 graphics, similar to AMD’s next discrete GPU generation. On the CPU side, the next Halo part is said to use two CCDs with 12 CPU cores each. That configuration would raise the total core count from 16 to 24.
AMD has not confirmed Medusa Halo, so all specifications, including the LPDDR6 support claim, should be treated as rumors. In fact, AMD has also not confirmed even a Gorgon Halo refresh yet. However this should be a late 2026 update thing, we are told. At CES 2026, AMD announced two new Strix Halo SKUs, which suggests the lineup is far from reaching the finish line.
