Windows 11 26H1 will launch with Snapdragon X2 PCs, Microsoft confirms

If you recall, we reported on 26H1 update for Windows a few weeks ago. The information at the time suggested it was a special version designed to be a launch vehicle for Qualcomm X2 and NVIDIA N1 systems. While X2 is confirmed to be launching soon-ish, NVIDIA has not yet gave a timeframe for devices. Today Microsoft has partially confirmed these rumors, but only for the Snapdragon X2 part.
In a blog post Microsoft explains what Windows 11, version 26H1 is and who will get it. The company describes 26H1 as a targeted release for new devices coming in early 2026, not a broadly distributed update. Microsoft says that, at this time, PCs with Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series processors will ship with Windows 11, version 26H1.
For everyone else, Microsoft says nothing changes. Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2 remain the recommended releases for enterprise deployments, and 26H1 is not a feature update for 25H2. Microsoft also reiterates that its annual feature update cadence continues in the second half of the year, which is the usual “H2” timing.
Microsoft also lists several practical limits. Windows 11, version 26H1 is not offered as an in-place update from 24H2 or 25H2, and it has no impact on devices already in market today. Devices that do ship with 26H1 will still receive the normal monthly security and quality updates, but Microsoft says 26H1 does not support hotpatch updates.
Windows 11, version 26H1 is a scoped release
- Windows 11, version 26H1 will only be available on new devices with select new silicon as they come to market in early 2026.
- Windows 11, version 26H1 is not offered as an in-place update from Windows 11, version 24H2 or 25H2 on existing devices.
- There is no impact to devices already in market today.
- Devices running Windows 11, version 26H1 will continue receiving monthly updates for security, quality, and new features, the same as devices running Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2.
- Devices running Windows 11, version 26H1 will not be able to update to the next annual feature update in the second half of 2026. This is because Windows 11, version 26H1 is based on a different Windows core than Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2, and the upcoming feature update. These devices will have a path to update in a future Windows release.
- Windows 11, version 26H1 does not support hotpatch updates.
- Windows 11, version 26H1 security updates will be manageable through typical tooling – Windows Autopatch, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager, etc.
No 26H2 update for X2 systems
Microsoft says devices running 26H1 will not be able to update to the next annual feature update in the second half of 2026, because 26H1 is based on a different Windows core than 24H2, 25H2, and the upcoming release. Microsoft says those systems will have a path to update in a future Windows release.
One thing Microsoft does not do in the post is name any silicon beyond Snapdragon X2. That means no mention of NVIDIA’s reported Arm PC plans in this specific 26H1 explanation.
