MSI GeForce RTX 5090 catches fire on camera

The warranty won’t cover this RTX 5090 fire damage

Melting connectors suddenly look like a minor issue compared to this.

A Bilibili uploader posted a clip today showing an MSI RTX 5090 card failing during startup. In a comment, the uploader says the issue has been confirmed as a graphics card problem.

The uploader claims the new power supply wiring did not burn and that the system operates normally after switching back to an RTX 5060. He states that other components currently show no issues, although one photo shows a motherboard area that was visibly discolored after the incident.

In replies, the uploader explains why the startup was recorded. He says they had just replaced the power supply and were filming the first boot after installing new hardware. He added that they only record power-on sequences when changing major components.

The uploader says this was the first time the MSI RTX 5090 had been installed and powered on. He describe the setup as a new 1300 W power supply paired with the new card, using the PSU’s original cables.

No warranty

The standard RTX 5090 is not officially sold in China , so the card was purchased through a proxy. In China only RTX 5090D and RTX 5090D V2 models are available. What this means is that there is no local warranty support for this unit, and handling warranty service would likely require physically sending or carrying the card abroad. They plan to contact the seller for repair after the holiday period.

This follows a separate recent incident we covered involving an MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming Trio producing smoke on camera. The new Bilibili case is separate, and the uploader’s comments focus on their own system checks and lack of local warranty coverage.
