NVIDIA App Hotfix 11.0.6.386 addresses random MUX switch issues

NVIDIA releases App Hotfix 11.0.6.386

NVIDIA has posted a hotfix installer for NVIDIA App version 11.0.6.386. It targets systems that cannot launch NVIDIA App 11.0.6 when updating through the app, and it also addresses a laptop display switching issue where Advanced Optimus MUX switch options appear grayed out during what NVIDIA calls “random mux switch scenarios.”

The Advanced Optimus item matters for laptops that rely on automatic iGPU to dGPU switching through a MUX. When the UI controls are grayed out, users can get stuck in a mode they did not select, or lose access to the display mode toggle until something resets the state.

Separately, “app won’t open” and “there was a problem with NVIDIA App” style failures have shown up around recent 11.0.6 builds, with users sharing workarounds such as stopping NVIDIA services and clearing driver profile data folders. Those are unofficial steps, so the supported path here is to use NVIDIA’s hotfix installer if your in-app update is broken.

If you were affected by the MUX controls being disabled or App software not working as intended, this fix is likely aimed at you. However, if you have no such problems, it is probably best to wait for the stable release at some point in the future.
