MSI teaser points to February 13 update for GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING

MSI’s UK social account has posted a teaser on X saying “ The wait is almost over. Tomorrow.” alongside lightning emojis and a prompt asking followers to guess what is coming. The post strongly points to an update on the GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING line on February 13
LIGHTNING is MSI’s halo-class graphics card line, built as a showcase product rather than a mainstream retail model. MSI has already said the RTX 5090 LIGHTNING will be produced in a strictly limited run of 1,300 units worldwide, each individually serialized.
A Taiwan retailer listing also claims Taiwan is allocated 100 units out of the 1,300, with sales handled through tightly controlled channels rather than broad availability. Today, MSI US also confirmed there’s a draw for this card and received an official price of $5090.99.
The price tag sounds insane, but what’s even more insane is that there is a lottery that will kindly let you purchase these graphics cards.

If that regional allocation holds, a meaningful share of the overall run is likely to be tied up in promotions, partner builds, and press coverage, which tends to leave fewer units for normal retail.

MSI is positioning LIGHTNING in the same “no-compromise” bracket as ASUS’s ROG Matrix, another limited high-end card that advertises up to 800 W. MSI’s own materials for LIGHTNING list 800 W and 1000 W user-selectable modes, plus a separate 2500 W “XOC BIOS” described as intended for extreme overclocking experiments, with warranty voided when enabled. MSI markets the RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z with an AIO liquid cooler and a full-size 8-inch display panel that can show telemetry and custom media, with control tied to MSI’s LIGHTNING Hub and mobile tools.
With MSI UK pointing to a February 13 update, expect a wave of launch-day hands-on coverage focused on build, cooling, and those headline features, alongside the reality that this card may be difficult to buy at retail even if you want one.
Well, I guess the ‘good news’ is that you get $69 worth of game bundles with this card…
