Northern Metropolis and AI vital to Hong Kong’s 5-year plan: business chambers

Hong Kong’s inaugural five-year plan should prioritise the Northern Metropolis mega development, strengthen the city’s position as an international financial centre and advance its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, major business chambers have said.

In submissions for the city’s first five-year plan, groups including the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) identified the Northern Metropolis as a key economic driver.

Family stranded at sea for 16 hours after jet ski capsized in Thailand

A French family was left stranded at sea for more than 16 hours overnight after their rented jet ski capsized off the coast of Thailand.

A 50-year-old father and his young sons were left "pale" and "exhausted after swallowing a lot of seawater" before being rescued, local government official Amorn Chomchoey told AFP.

All three were taken to hospital for checks but were discharged shortly afterwards, Chomchoey said.

The father had rented the jet ski for a 45-minute ride on Koh Samui

Struggling families urge return of student grant after textbook prices jump

Hong Kong parents and concern groups have urged authorities to reinstate student subsidies after textbook prices recorded their sharpest increase since the Covid-19 pandemic, amid the growing use of digital learning tools.
