Something I have realized about university services
There's a lot of services that people build around the university, bothlarge and small . The general habit isto make them self-contained services that run on your own web site orwhatever, or perhaps ones that integrate with other on-campus systems.
I have come to believe that this is a mistake. These days, universityservices should be assuming that students (both undergraduates andespecially graduate students) will show up to the university withalready established online identities and habits, which means thatservices should

Managing News - Revolutionaryânot EvolutionaryâStep for Drupal
I noticed a post from the excellent folks over at Development Seed in the drupal.org Planet feed on a new Drupal installation profile they've been working on called Managing News . Having tried (and loved) their Drupal-based installation of Open Atrium (a great package for quick Intranets), I had pretty high expectations.
Those expectations were pretty much blown out of the water; this install profile basically sets up a Drupal site (with all the Drupal bells and whistles) that is focused on one thing,

Observations on Italy
My observations about Italy / Rome, so far:
- "Everything is in its place, but nothing is in order" <-- < li so true.>
- Hot Chocolate is very thick here - it's like molasses!
- Unlike St. Louis, a rainy morning on Monday does not mean a cloudy, muggy week
- Italians talk very fast - multo veloce
- Italians have one rule when parking: park wherever there is space.
- You can easily spot a tourist. Just look for someone with a map. (Without one, good
