Judge swapped in Trump's defamation case against BBC

A judge who was recently nominated by Donald Trump to serve in Florida's federal court has taken over as judge in the US president's $10bn defamation case against the BBC.

Jeffrey Kuntz was nominated as a federal judge by Trump in April and confirmed by a 51-46 majority in the Republican-led Senate last month.

He was previously an appeals court judge in Florida and replaces Judge Roy Altman, who had also been nominated by Trump in 2019.

The U.S. condemned Israel for its strike on a defunct military air base in Syria. Although the attack did not cause any casualties, according to Syrian state media, it follows a series of fractures between the two countries in recent weeks.

US sanctions International Criminal Court chief Tomoko Akane

The United States imposed sanctions on Tuesday on the International Criminal Court’s president and a senior trial lawyer at the court, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

The move is the latest escalation in the Trump administration’s campaign against The Hague-based court, which was established ‌in 2002 by the international community to prosecute war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity.

The US is not a member of the court.

Merged earlier this year for Linux 7.1 was extended attributes on sockets support as a feature sought after by the likes of GNOME and systemd for helping with Varlink IPC usage and other purposes. A limitation though of the functionality has been no efficient means for a BPF program to read those user extended attribute labels back. But with Linux 7.3 that's being addressed with the new bpf_sock_read_xattr() kernel function.

Second Southern Georgian Bay OPP officer charged with sexual assault this week

Ontario’s police watchdog says a provincial police officer was arrested and charged with sexual assault, a day after another officer with the same detachment was charged with similar offences.
