YouTube Channel Update Video

I popped over to YouTube yesterday to check out my channel page, and realized my videos have now surpassed 500,000 views—that's pretty awesome! I also have about as many subscribers to that channel as I do to this blog's RSS feed, so I figure I might think about catering to that audience with some new videos...

Interview with the 16-Bit Catholic (Dustin Faber)

Halo 4 Master Chief
In a break from normal events, I talked with a Twitter friend Dustin Faber tonight about gaming . Many people who follow this blog and follow me on Facebook might know I enjoy video games, but they might not know how much I enjoy them :)

My brother and I both played a ton of arcade and early computer and console games growing up, and I currently play games in the Halo series and a little Minecraft from time to time. Not as often as I did before I met my beautiful bride, but

PSR-0 PSR-1 PSR-2, Drupal, and You!

For the past couple years, discussions about 'PSR-0', PHP standards, and some sort of framework standardizations have been popping up here and there. It wasn't until a bunch of 'PSR-0 Interoperability' patches started popping up in the Drupal core issue queues that I decided to take a closer look at PSR. (The latest? PSR-1 (Basic Coding Standard) and PSR-2 (Coding Style Guide) have been accepted).

There's a great FAQ that was

Tech Talk Interview on CatholicMom.com

Sarah Reinhard is starting a new column, Tech Talks , on CatholicMom.com, where she interviews Catholics in tech (like myself). I was excited to be asked to participate in the first interview: Catholic Techie Jeff Geerling .

Speaking of tech-related things, this weekend I worked almost a full day on porting the Catholic Diocese App over to Android, and I'm getting pretty close. I have most of the functionality working, but there are quite a few rough edges. More to come!

2012 Mass of Priesthood Ordination (Photos)

I've posted all the photos I took at this year's Mass of Priestly Ordination at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis on Flickr:

Priesthood Ordination 196

Congratulations to all five men who were ordained; we'll be praying for you!

Beautiful Flower at the Cathedral

During today's Mass of Priesthood Ordination at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, I was waiting for the procession to start outside the entrance, and decided to stand in the garden between the Cathedral and the rectory for a few minutes, even though the sun was beating down (93°F in the morning!).

I was rewarded with a wonderful shot of this interesting little bug:

Daisy Bug

I haven't done a lot of flower/closeup photography in a while, but it seems this picture turned

For Greater Glory - Movie about Cristero War

Judging by the trailers for this movie, I think it will probably be a pretty thrilling and interesting movie that handles Catholic faith and morality well. The production value looks to be a bit higher than some other recent Catholic/Christian films, and I'm excited to see some top-notch actors and actresses in the credits, including Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria and Eduardo Verástegui.

The movie will be released June 1st, 2012 (just a short time from now). Here

Catholic New Media Conference 2012 - See you there!

I'll be attending the 2012 Catholic New Media Conference in Dallas/Fort Worth from August 29-31; will I see you there? This year will be the largest CNMC yet, with a ton of great speakers and separate tracks for different days of the conference.

CNMC 2012

This year's theme is Marketing Your Message , and the main track of the CNMC Professional Day will be filled with keynote speakers talking about this theme. At the same time, Matthew Warner and I will be leading

Archdiocese of St. Louis and Catholic Charities sue federal government over HHS Mandate

From the press release announcing the lawsuit:

The Archdiocese of St. Louis and Catholic Charities of St. Louis are taking legal action against the federal government of the United States of America. During a press conference today, Archbishop Robert J. Carlson announced that a lawsuit challenging the legality of the HHS mandate was filed in court this morning.

Archbishop Carlson stated that the Church “had pursued every other imaginable option to correct this problem,” and added that, “Right now the future is

Gracious in victory, gracious in defeat

This evening I participated in my second volleyball banquet as freshman team coach for De Smet Jesuit high school. The banquet is a time where the coaches, players, managers and parents come together to share a meal and reflect on the past season, thank the outgoing seniors for their years of dedication and great play in the volleyball program, and look forward to the next season of volleyball.

Our varsity team this year was very close to winning the state championship, and had the best record for a 4A school in St
