Rally Squirrel Says "Relax..."

Got this in my email inbox this morning, and couldn't resist posting it here. Though I'm very much not in favor of animated gifs in general, this one isn't too bad :)

Rally Squirrel - Relax
Kind of reminds me of this relaxing squirrel .

This year's World Series has been awesome; last night's walk-off home run by our hometown hero David Freese was one of the best moments in baseball this year!

Server Move... Site Reorganization

Over the past couple days, I've been moving all my websites from a few different servers to a newly-configured VPS hosted at Hot Drupal. Up until now, I've operated most of my sites on shared hosting, and that's been working great for me, but my sites' traffic has prompted this upgrade.

A few of the sites may go a bit cattywompus over the next day or two as I change DNS settings and configurations.

On a related note, I'm going to

Pick and Choose F-key usage (Brightness, Sound, Dashboard, etc.) on a Mac

For the longest time, I've flip-flopped on whether to check the 'Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys' option in the Keyboard System Preference pane.

I love using the volume up and down keys on the keyboard, and probably use them fifty times a day. I sometimes like using the 'Dashboard' key too. I rarely use the media control keys. I'm undecided on the F1/F2 keys, though... I

Modern Office Computers

...and we now get hundreds of 'electronic letters' a day. Ick. (From a Science Encyclopedia I devoured over and over as a kid).

Prefill the Subject of a Privatemsg Message

I've had a nice go at making private messaging capabilities for flockNote work a lot nicer than the out-of-the-box Privatemsg module experience, by simplifying everything to the point that it's closer to the Facebook Direct Message system than the normal Privatemsg UX. (Privatemsg is the premiere way of handling private messaging in Drupal. It's already awesome out of the box... just needed a bit more help for our particular site ;-).

One thing I had wanted to do

Life, Liberty, and Social Media

Found: An interesting article from Gladden J. Pappin on Liberty, Technology, and the Advent of Social Networking . It's a bit tl;dr , but I've read through once, and hope to sit with it a little longer sometime.

The article (and many like it) makes me think a bit about the theme of personhood on the Internet, and how our use and overuse of social media, blogging, etc. in building our own self-image is something about which we must always

Views from the Willis Tower SkyDeck

I recorded the video below using my iPhone 4, and set it to some ambient music. The views from the Willis Tower's SkyDeck (103 floors up) are truly majestic, and I hope to go again someday (next time, I'll remember my tripod!).

Shedd Aquarium Aquatic Show - Dolphin Show (White-sided Dolphins)

I recorded the following video of the last portion of the aquatic show at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, IL. My wife and I visited the aquarium to see this interesting show of dolphins (the highlight), a couple red-tailed hawks, and sometimes other animals as well.

I highly recommend the show if you're in Chicago!

Willis Tower Perspective

I took this photo from the ground at Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in Chicago, IL over the weekend. I also took a bunch of HD videos from the SkyDeck that I'll be putting together into a few minutes of video. Truly a majestic building, and I wonder if we'll ever see something taller in the U.S. Seems our architectural prowess is taking a back seat to the rest of the world lately.

As an aside, if the iPhone 4 takes pictures of this quality

The Catholics Next Door - Appearance on The Catholic Channel

I didn't have much time today to post this earlier (I was driving home from a trip which took me through five states in six days, and had to do this on the road), but this afternoon I was on the excellent ' Catholics Next Door ' radio show on the Sirius XM Catholic Channel .

I was happy to speak with Greg and Jennifer Willits about flockNote , about parish communications, and about helping Catholic organizations get connected to their flock in various ways.

Then I continued driving home from Chicago
