Removing Sticker Residue from a MacBook Air (or another laptop)
I like putting stickers on my laptops, to make them a little more personal. But I hate removing the inevitable sticker residue after peeling off stickers before I sell or pass on my old laptop.
In this video, I'll show you my current best technique for getting residue off most metal and hard plastic surfaces:

Why I close PRs (OSS project maintainer notes)

I maintain many open source projects on GitHub and elsewhere (over 160 as of this writing). I have merged and/or closed thousands of Pull Requests (PRs) and patches in the past few years, and would like to summarize here many of the reasons I don't merge many PRs.
A few of my projects have co-maintainers, but most are just me. The bus factor is low, but I offset that by granting very open licenses and encouraging forks. I also devote a
External display waking up? Disable notifications when your screen is off
Since a week or so ago, I noticed that even when my Mac's display was put to sleep, my external display would sometimes turn on and remain on for long periods of time if I had a calendar reminder or some other type of non-dismissible notification. It would even come on (and turn off shortly thereafter) for quick notifications.
This was highly annoying, especially when I'd come to my computer in the morning and realize the external monitor had been on displaying a notification all night!

Upgrading Drupal VM in a BLT-powered project
Update 2017-02-14 : BLT now includes a much simpler method of upgrading the VM (provided you only override VM settings in files separate from the
box/config.ymlfile):# Delete the entire VM and remove config.blt vm:nuke# Rebuild the VM with the latest recommended version and config.blt vm
Limiting the amount of surprises you get when developing a large-scale Drupal project is always a good thing. And to that end, Acquia's BLT

A Tale of Two Apples: AirPods and the Touch Bar
Yesterday UPS delivered a BTO 2016 MacBook Pro 13" with Touch Bar (to replace my 2013 11" MacBook Air), and a set of AirPods (to replace three different headsets I use daily in my work as a remote employee).

The two products tell a different story about the company that makes them:

The MacBook Pro fails to 'thrill' in a way that no other Apple device I've made the conscious decision to purchase has
Drupal VM 4 is Here! With PHP 7.1 and easy PHP switching

Seven months after Drupal VM 3 introduced PHP 7.0 and Ubuntu 16.04 as the default, as well as more stable team-based development environment tooling, Drupal VM 4 is here!
Thanks especially to the efforts of Oskar Schöldström and Thom Toogood , who helped push through some of the more tricky fixes for this release!
If you're not familiar with Drupal VM, it's a tool built with Ansible and Vagrant that helps build Drupal development environments. The
MetaZ - Alternative to MetaX and iDentify 2 for tagging video content in iTunes
For many years, I've ripped all my DVDs, Blu-Rays, and HD-DVDs into my computer, and it's great to be able to watch any of my digital content on any of my devices whenever and wherever I want, without having to have a huge stack of discs laying somewhere accessible (I store them all in a box in my basement).
For almost as long, I've used iDentify for this purpose, but it looks like the developer behind the app gave up
Review: Epson DS-40 WiFi portable document scanner

I've always been fascinated by digital scanners; my Dad worked in an industry that allowed him access to some of the newest tech in terms of computing, so I was able to use a full-color (16-bit!) digital scanner hooked up to an early Mac IIci running Photoshop when most people still used computers with 8-bit displays.
Ansible for DevOps is $0.99 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2016!
I decided to discount Ansible for DevOps on LeanPub to $0.99 for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The book has already been purchased by over 8,000 people on Amazon, LeanPub, and the iBooks Store, and is the only book available that covers the latest version of Ansibleâand is continuously updated!
I've written a lot about the process of self-publishing , in case you're interested. I'm hoping to keep updating Ansible for DevOps every quarter
