Cuba will release 51 prisoners in the coming days as a demonstration of "goodwill" following talks with the Vatican, Havana's government has said.

It did not specify whether they included political prisoners, but it said they had all "served a significant portion of their sentences and have maintained good conduct while in prison".

Rescue operations are under way after a US military refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq, US Central Command (Centcom) has said.

Neither hostile nor friendly fire were involved in the downing of the KC-135, which occurred over western Iraq, Centcom said.

UK MPs 'deeply troubled' by BBC World Service funding uncertainty

A committee of MPs have said they are "deeply troubled" by uncertainty over the government's future funding for the BBC World Service.

The government provides about 30% of the budget for the World Service, which reaches more than 300 million people a week and is "a jewel in the crown of the UK's soft power", according to the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

However, its "prominence is being diminished by poor governance
