Businessman Mohamed Mohideen has lived in Osaka for the past 39 years. He moved from his home country Sri Lanka in 1987 for better work opportunities during the economic bubble.
He has dealt gemstones and later worked in trade, exporting used cars to countries like Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
He moved at a time, he says, when there were far fewer foreign residents.

And this is not an isolated incident.
In 2021, local officials were arrested, accused of concealing or underreporting 139 deaths in Henan province.
Incidents like these have resulted in a trust vacuum that has made it much easier for bad actors to spread fake content.
But police are imploring people to trust accredited sources during emergencies.
"When encountering disaster-related information from an unknown source, approach it with scepticism and rely on official announcements," Gao Kai from the Ningbo Public Security Bureau said.

Shots fired at US consulate in Toronto for a second time this year
Toronto police said they were investigating the latest attack with the help of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and international law enforcement partners.
Supt Jonathan Ko with the RCMP called it "another troubling incident", while the city's mayor, Olivia Chow, called the attack "brazen".
