New test shows Sony A7rV “monochrom” version would give 1 stop advantage and visible increased sharpness

The new Leica M11 Monochrom camera uses exactly the same Sony A7rV sensor with stripped RGB filter (the sensor is listed on Sony’s sensor page ). PetaPixel tested the M11 and the result is quite clear: the M11 gives 1 stop advantage and visible increased sharpness compared to the classic Bayer sensor!

I do believe Sony should make a Sony A7rV monochrome version for those reasons:

  • It would give us the option of getting the “ultimate” dynamic range and sharpness performance

Let’s dig into the specs of this new Xperia I V dual layer sensor that surely will find it’s way in future professional E-mount cameras too!

On May 11 Sony will announce the Xperia I V. I really don’t care much about smartphones but the ONE interesting new feature is the world’s first dual layer sensor camera. This tech might find it’s use on future Sony E-mount cameras too. In my video I will explain in simple terms what’s so special about this.

In short: Imaging having current (expensive) medium format quality on Full Frame cameras!
