The British government on Thursday urged FIFA to investigate Argentina’s team after players posed with a banner claiming sovereignty over the contested Falkland Islands.

Argentina beat England 2-1 in a World Cup semifinal on Wednesday in Atlanta.

During post-match celebrations, Argentine players held a banner handed over by fans in the stands, reading “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” — “The Malvinas are Argentine.”

TORONTO — Ontario’s colleges and universities ministry has disqualified students at five private career colleges from receiving student assistance loans this coming year, after raising concerns with some of the schools’ course enrolment practices.

The move comes as career college students across the province are barred from accessing grants through the Ontario Student Assistance Program, part of a financial aid overhaul by the provincial government that also involves sharply reducing the amount of grants students at universities and publicly funded colleges can receive.

OTTAWA — A handful of federal ministers are expected to address hundreds of First Nations chiefs as they gather in Ottawa today.

They’ll be speaking in front of the Assembly of First Nations’ annual general meeting about public safety, the economy and natural resources development and social services for communities.

The Assembly of First Nations is a national advocacy body that takes its direction from some 630 First Nations chiefs through special and annual general assemblies.

Jim Corrigall, the standout Canadian defensive lineman who spurned the NFL for a career with the Toronto Argonauts, has died. He was 80.

Kent State, Corrigall’s alma mater, announced his passing Wednesday. The university didn’t divulge the cause of death but in 2019 Corrigall and his daughter, Amy Corrigall Jones, told the Akron Beacon Journal he had learned that he likely suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), an incurable degenerative brain disease caused by repeated head trauma.

Hamilton police are investigating the death of a man who was discovered in a culvert on Wednesday morning.

Investigator say they were called to the north end of Fruitland Road after a civillian found a body on the rocks by the lake, partially submerged in the water.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified but his identity is not being released as investigators are still working to notify his next of kin.
