Luigi Mangione gets stuck in an elevator as judge delays his federal trial until January

NEW YORK (AP) — Luigi Mangione’s federal trial in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson will now begin in January instead of the fall, a judge said Monday at a hearing that started late because Mangione got stuck in a courthouse elevator.

U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett said she was postponing the federal trial so Mangione’s lawyers can focus on his state murder trial , which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8.

Two boys, 7 and 10, found dead in murder-suicide investigation

Two young boys and their father were found dead in what police suspect to be a case of murder-suicide in Ottawa on Monday.

Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford says he’ll rename Sankofa Square “Toronto Square” — and clean it up — if he’s elected in October.

Calling Sankofa Square at Yonge and Dundas streets “dirty and unsafe,” he also said he would establish a permanent police substation and expand outreach and mental health supports as part of his makeover vision for the public space unveiled on Monday.

Ministry of Labour investigating chemical spill at laundry service facility in Mississauga

The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a chemical spill at a linen and laundry service facility in Mississauga on Monday.

Police and emergency services were called to 6580 Northwest Drive near Airport Road at around 10:00 a.m.

The building houses EcoTex Smarter Linen Solutions and was evacuated as a precaution. One person was transported to hospital, also as a precaution.

The Canadian retired with a shoulder injury after the second set of his first-round match against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta.

Affordability concerns still paramount for renters even as prices fall

TORONTO — A new survey of Canadian renters says affordability concerns continue to far outweigh all other rental market challenges even after nearly two years of declines in asking prices.
