Suspect sought after 2 teens turn up at North York hospital with stab wounds

Toronto police say an altercation between two groups of teens resulted in two youths walking into a nearby North York hospital suffering from stab wounds.

Police say the altercation took place just after 7 p.m. Thursday in the area of Agate Road and Wilson Avenue, across the street from Humber River Hospital.

Police say one male teen suffered critical injuries and was in life-threatening condition, while the second male teen had non-life threatening injuries. A third male teen was not injured in the incident.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup Series champion who won more races than anyone across NASCAR’s three national series, has died. He was 41.

City council to reimburse Chris Moise half legal expenses incurred during integrity commission investigation

Toronto City Council has voted to reimburse Coun. Chris Moise, half of the more than $20,000 in legal expenses he incurred as part of an integrity commissioner’s investigation earlier this year.

During a robust debate at City Hall on Thursday, councillors voted 16-6 in favour of a motion by Coun. John Burnside to allow Moise to claim 50 per cent of his legal costs, minus the $5,000 he has already been reimbursed.

2 Mississauga men charged in widespread gift card scam: Halton Regional Police

Halton Regional Police have charged two Mississauga men after they allegedly took part in a widespread gift card scam spanning from Niagara Region to Barrie.

One of the suspects first came to the attention of authorities after a December 2025 incident at a Walmart Supercentre in Burlington.

“The investigation was initiated after an unidentified male was observed removing gift cards from his pockets and placing them onto a retail display rack,” a police release explained.

CRTC triples streamers’ financial contributions to Canadian content

OTTAWA — Large TV streaming services like Netflix must contribute 15 per cent of their Canadian revenues to Canadian content, the federal broadcast regulator said Thursday.

That’s three times the five-per-cent initial contribution requirement the CRTC set out in 2024, which is being challenged in court by major streamers, including Apple and Amazon.

Contribution requirements for traditional broadcasters, which currently pay between 30 and 45 per cent, will be lowered to 25 per cent.

El Nino expected to lessen the number of tropical storms and hurricanes this season

HALIFAX — The Canadian Hurricane Centre is predicting a slightly below-average hurricane season because forecasters are anticipating the emergence of a disruptive El Niño climate pattern.

The Atlantic hurricane season starts on June 1 and ends on Nov. 30.

Senior meteorologist Bob Robichaud says the arrival of El Niño results in warmer water rising to the surface of the Pacific Ocean near the equator, which is expected to happen around the same time hurricane season peaks in September.

OTTAWA — Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says Canadians who were on board a flotilla heading to Gaza that was intercepted by Israel are safe and are being transferred to Turkey.
