OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is getting a new top aide after Ian Todd announced plans to retire this summer.

Steve Outhouse will take on the role of chief of staff in addition to his job as Conservative campaign manager, while Aaron Wudrick will serve as deputy chief of staff.

In a letter to the Conservative caucus and staff in Poilievre’s office, Todd says he remains fully committed to the leader and the future of the Conservative movement.

Toronto police cruiser, firetruck involved in separate Scarborough collisions

A Toronto Police Service (TPS) cruiser and a Toronto Fire truck were involved in separate collisions in parts of Scarborough on Tuesday.

The first incident involving a TPS cruiser took place at around 11:55 a.m. in the Finch Avenue East and Midland Avenue area.

A two-vehicle crash resulted in the cruiser smashing into a pole, toppling it.

Two officers were taken to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a man, was also taken to hospital


Whitby man charged in child sexual exploitation investigation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged a Whitby man who is accused of allegedly using technology to sexually exploit children.

OPP investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Whitby on May 12 and several electronic devices were seized.

Mario Sultana, 67, was arrested and charged with agreement to commit a sexual offence against a person under 16 and making child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

After a bail hearing, Sultana was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 12


Two people fined for fireworks after Canadiens beat Sabres in Game 7 of NHL playoffs

MONTREAL — Montreal police say two people will be fined for lighting fireworks in the city’s downtown after the Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabres Monday night in Game 7.

Police did not give the amount of the fines, adding that the two people will receive the tickets at a later date.

Chief-Insp. David Shane had warned fans it’s forbidden to throw or possess fireworks or smoke-emitting devices during gatherings.

Poll suggests many Canadians worry about sports betting turning into problem gambling

OTTAWA — A new poll suggests Canadians are worried about sports betting becoming a problem.

Seven in 10 people who responded to a recent poll by the Angus Reid Institute said they’re worried about an increase in problem gambling.

Just under half of those surveyed said they think the rise of online betting is a bad thing.

The survey also looked to find out who is gambling on sports and found the highest rate of participation among men under age 55.
