Efforts to avoid a strike by Toronto Transit Commission employees are going into overtime.

A statement released early Saturday morning says both the TTC and CUPE Local 2 have agreed to extend talks beyond the Friday midnight deadline to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Man killed by workplace injury, Peel police say

People Regional Police are investigating after a man was killed Friday in what authorities describe as a workplace injury. Emergency crews were called to 227 Advance Boulevard in Brampton on Friday afternoon. Traffic closures were briefly in effect on Advance Boulevard between Tomken Road and Dixie Road. OTTAWA — A convicted sex offender and a former engineering executive who was found guilty of corruption have been stripped of their appointments to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — An Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Friday targeted the leader of ’ military wing, Israeli officials said, but it wasn’t immediately clear if Izz al-Din al-Haddad was killed or injured.

Hamas did not immediately acknowledge or comment on the strike.
