JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli lawmakers approved a bill on Monday setting up a special tribunal that would try and have the authority to sentence to death Palestinians convicted of taking part in the 2023 .

The measure passed 93-0 in the 120-seat Knesset, or parliament, reflecting widespread support for punishing those found responsible for what was the deadliest attack in Israel’s history. The remaining 27 lawmakers were absent or abstained from voting.

TORONTO — BMO Financial Group says it signed an agreement with U.S.-based Stonepeak for the sale of the bank’s transportation and vendor finance businesses.

BMO says its transportation finance business provides specialized financing for trucks and trailers while its vendor finance business offers equipment financing through original equipment manufacturers and dealer networks.

The combined loan and lease portfolios for the businesses in the U.S. and Canada totalled around $14.5 billion as of March 31.

Man, 45, accused of vandalizing Toronto church on 4 occasions

Toronto police have arrested a 45-year-old man who is accused of vandalizing a North York church on four separate occasions.

Sohrab Mehmandoust was arrested on May 5 and charged with four counts of mischief related to religious property.

Authorities say he attended a church multiple times in the Don Mills Road and Fairview Mall Drive area between August 6, 2025 and May 5, 2026.

Teen charged with murder in Oshawa homicide investigation

A teenager has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with an Oshawa homicide investigation.

Police were called to a Tim Horton’s location at 2700 Simcoe Street North just after 8 p.m. on Saturday for reports of an armed person.

When officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old man suffering from “traumatic injuries.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Unifor names Ford as first target in auto industry bargaining

TORONTO — Canada’s largest private sector union says it will kick off negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers by targeting Ford Motor Co. first.

Unifor, which typically uses pattern bargaining for its auto sector negotiations, says talks with Ford will begin on June 22.

The union represents about 5,000 workers across Ford facilities in Canada.

Unifor says part of the reason why it decided to start negotiations with Ford first is because it has a long-standing and productive working relationship with the company.

A Markham sports coach previously charged in a series of historical sexual offences involving youth has been arrested again, this time accused of breaching strict release conditions imposed on him.
