Fire at downtown Toronto seniors building leaves 1 critically injured

Toronto Fire Services says one person has been rushed to the hospital with life‑threatening injuries after being rescued from the eighth floor of a seniors building on Yonge Street late on Sunday.

Crews were called to 423 Yonge Street near Gerrard Street East, where firefighters located an occupant on an upper floor and brought them out of the building. The individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The fire itself has since been extinguished, and officials say there is no active threat to the rest of the building.

OTTAWA — A House of Commons committee has amended a proposed bill that would criminalize sexual deepfakes to ensure it covers “nearly nude” images.

The change to Bill C-16 comes after experts warned the original version of the bill would likely not incorporate many of the images created by Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot that proliferated on his X platform at the beginning of this year.

DELTA — Police in Delta, B.C., say a motorcyclist is in hospital after a crash that left the bike suspended from a traffic light.

They say in a news release that members from the department responded to the scene at the 7100 Block of Scott Road just before 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The statement says the motorcycle driver sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

Motorcyclist killed in Scarborough crash

A motorcyclist in his 40s is dead following a crash in Scarborough on Sunday evening.

Toronto police were called to Orton Park Road just south of Ellesmere Road shortly after 6 p.m. for reports of a two-vehicle crash.

BEIRUT (AP) — Nobel Peace laureate and activist has been transferred to a Tehran hospital more than a week after , her foundation said Sunday.

Her transfer comes after days of pleading by her family and others who described her condition as critical. Her foundation said she has been granted a prison sentence suspension on bail. It was not clear for how long her sentence is suspended, the foundation said.

Mohammadi had been imprisoned since December in Zanjan prison. She lost consciousness twice and was transferred to a local hospital on May
