Man dead after car crashes into tree in Scarborough

A man has died following a single-vehicle collision in Scarborough, police said Friday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Goldhawk Trail and Hutchcroft Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. for reports of a car that crashed into a tree.

Authorities say a man in his 20s was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.


Man and woman wanted in alleged distraction theft of elderly man

Toronto police are on the hunt for two suspects who are wanted in connection with a distraction theft investigation in Scarborough.

According to investigators, an unknown man and woman allegedly followed an elderly victim into a bank near Eglinton Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue on April 15 at approximately 2:20 p.m.

Police say the pair watched as the victim withdrew money and then followed the individual as they left the bank.

“The man squirted ketchup on the victim’s back and then walked away,” police explained

Man, 35, wanted in Scarborough sex assault investigation

A 35-year-old man from Whitby has been charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation that allegedly took place in Scarborough last month.

According to investigators, a 29-year-old woman claims to have met a suspect identified as John Haylock using Facebook’s dating feature.

The pair met up on April 1 near Lawrence Avenue East and Homestead Road.

The woman alleges that she was sexually assaulted by Haylock and further accused him of engaging in “harassing conduct” after the assault.

Gerry Conway, a renowned comic book writer who helped create characters and stories for Marvel and DC, including the Punisher character in the Spider-Man comics, has died. He was 73.

Service on part of Line 6 Finch West halted due to collision between LRT and vehicle

Service on part of Line 6 Finch West has been stopped due to a collision between the LRT and a vehicle.

The TTC says there is currently no service between Norfinch Oakdale and Finch West due to the crash just after 4 p.m.

Shuttle buses are on the way to operate between the two stations.

No injuries have been reported.

This is the second crash between an LRT and a vehicle in as many days.
