BLYTHE, Calif. (AP) — Eight corrections officers and an incarcerated man were injured in a riot involving around 200 inmates in the recreational yard of a Southern California prison, authorities said Thursday.

The violence erupted around 10 a.m. Wednesday as officers were escorting an inmate across the yard as part of a contraband investigation at Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Man critically injured in Roncesvalles stabbing, two in custody

Two people are in custody and a man is in critical condition following a stabbing in Roncesvalles on a TTC streetcar.

Police say they were called to the area of Dundas Street West and Roncesvalles Avenue just after 7 p.m. for reports someone had been stabbed.

When they arrived they found a man in his 40s suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Paramedics transported the victim to a nearby trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

Vibrations in cooling system mean new Georgia nuclear reactor will again be delayed

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Power Co. said Thursday that vibrations found in a cooling system of its second new nuclear reactor will delay when the unit begins generating power.

A man died after being struck by a driver in North York on Thursday night, police said.

Officers were called to the area of Jane Street and Clair Road around 7 p.m. for reports someone had been hit by a vehicle.

New Hampshire school worker is charged with assaulting 7-year-olds, weeks after similar incident

MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man was charged Thursday with assaulting two 7-year-old children at an elementary school, two weeks after similar charges were filed against another worker at the school.

Manchester Police said witnesses saw 24-year-old William O’Connell, a behavior technician at Parker-Varney Elementary School, throw a 7-year-old boy to the ground, causing him facial injuries. Police said he also put a 7-year-old girl


Three people found dead in Richmond Hill home

York Regional Police officers say three people have been found dead in a MacKay Drive home. Nick Westoll reports.

Police in York region are investigating after three people were found dead inside a home in Richmond Hill.

Investigators say they were called to the home on MacKay Drive in the area of Yonge Street and Highway 7 just after 4 p.m. Thursday for a wellness check. It’s uncertain at this time what the nature of that concern was.

North Korean leader Kim calls for war readiness while inspecting construction of warships

Money sent home by Mexicans working abroad rose by 7.6% in 2023, to reach a record $63 billion

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The money that Mexican migrants send home to their relatives grew by 7.6% in 2023, to reach a record $63.3 billion for the year, Mexico’s central bank said Thursday.
