COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina would provide free gun training and allow anyone who can legally to carry their weapon in public under a bill that passed the state Senate on Thursday.

Ontario municipal staff say $85.5M cut risks success of $10-a-day child-care program
The municipal staff who administer the child-care system across Ontario are telling Education Minister Stephen Lecce that an $85.5-million cut to their budgets puts the success of the $10-a-day program at risk.
The Ontario Municipal Social Services Association said in a letter to the minister that the national program, which Ontario signed onto in 2022, has meant a significant amount of additional work for municipal child-care administrators and now is not the time to cut their funding.

2 teens arrested after car with 2 children stolen in Weston
Two teenagers are facing several charges after allegedly stealing a car that had a young child and baby inside.
Officers were called to the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after getting reports of a stolen vehicle.
Police said a woman was putting groceries into her car when a 13-year-old male allegedly jumped in the running vehicle and drove away. A four-year-old child and seven-month-old baby were inside at the time.

Indigo Books & Music Inc. says it has received a proposal to take the retailer private from a pair of companies owned by controlling shareholder Gerald Schwartz.

MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police say a 57-year-old man is dead after a Cessna 172 plane crashed in Western Quebec early Thursday.
The Transportation Safety Board says its investigators will be deployed on Friday to the crash site between Denholm, Que., and Martindale, Que., about 45 kilometres north of Ottawa.

Federal investigators examining collapsed Boise airplane hangar that killed 3
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Federal investigators were working Thursday to try to determine what caused a steel airplane hangar that was under construction in Idaho to collapse the previous evening, killing three people and leaving several others badly injured.
The Boise Fire Department said in the morning that the scene was turned over to OSHA investigators. Though the hangar is at the Boise Airport, it is privately owned by Jackson Jet Center, a charter flight and maintenance company.
