Indiana lawmakers vote to let some state officials carry handguns on Capitol grounds

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Some Indiana officials, including the attorney general and the secretary of state, could carry handguns in the state Capitol under a bill approved Monday by state lawmakers, who already can do so inside the complex.

The new bill authored by a Republican lawmaker would allow the state attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and comptroller and their staff members to carry a handgun if they are not otherwise barred by state or federal law.

The bill now advances to the House.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow says she will reduce multi-residential tax rate to help renters

​Mayor Olivia Chow says she is reducing the proposed tax increase for multi-residential properties to keep landlords from passing the cost onto renters.

The current proposed multi-residential tax rate increase is six per cent, broken down to 4.5 per cent in property taxes and the 1.5 per cent increase to the City Building Fund, which is a levy that supports capital projects.

This is the first proposed change from Chow that was presented to her by the Toronto budget committee.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two New York City brothers were accused Monday of stockpiling an arsenal of explosive devices and ghost guns in their family’s home, where authorities say they also found anarchist propaganda and a hit list that mentioned but didn’t name cops, judges, politicians and celebrities.

OTTAWA — British Columbia Premier David Eby says the recent sharing of fake intimate images of pop star Taylor Swift proves no one is immune from such “attacks,” as the province launches new services to get images taken down and go after perpetrators for damages.

The launch of the services on Monday in conjunction with the Civil Resolution Tribunal comes on the same day the province’s Intimate Images Protection Act comes into force.
