NEW YORK (AP) — Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is suing state Attorney General Letitia James in an effort to force her to turn over interviews from the damaging investigation that led to his resignation.

Cuomo filed the case against James in New York state court on Thursday, arguing he needs the witness statements in full to defend himself against two sexual harassment lawsuits linked to the investigation.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — The family of a man who died by suicide at a Virginia jail after his antipsychotic medication was discontinued has received a $1.75 million settlement in a civil lawsuit.

Records at U.S. District Court in Alexandria show that the family of Christopher Lapp, who , accepted the settlement offer Thursday from a psychiatrist who worked at the facility and was the target of the suit.

JetBlue and Spirit Airlines say they will appeal a judge’s ruling that blocked their merger

NEW YORK (AP) — JetBlue and Spirit Airlines said Friday they will appeal this week that blocked their plan to combine into a single carrier.

The airlines said they filed a notice of appeal with the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, following the terms of their agreement.

The Justice Department, which sued to block JetBlue’s proposed $3.8 billion purchase of Spirit, declined to comment.

North Carolina school board backs away from law on policies on pronouns, gender identity instruction

Crown won’t appeal Quebec woman’s acquittal after third trial in daughters’ deaths

MONTREAL — The Crown says it won’t appeal the acquittal last month of a Quebec woman following a third trial in the deaths of her two daughters.

Adele Sorella was acquitted by Quebec Superior Court Justice Myriam Lachance on Dec. 18.

Sorella had been convicted twice previously, in 2013 and 2019, of murder in the girls’ killings following jury trials, but both of those decisions were overturned on appeal, which led to a third trial that took place last year before a judge


California health officials link gastrointestinal illness to raw oysters imported from Mexico

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Health officials in Southern California are warning people to avoid eating raw oysters from parts of Mexico after more than 200 people recently fell ill with suspected cases of norovirus.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has more than 150 suspected cases of gastrointestinal illness linked to raw oysters, while in San Diego County, health officials said Thursday that they had 69 confirmed and probable cases.
