Brampton social worker charged in sexual assault at shelter
A Brampton man employed at a local shelter has been charged with sexual assault, Peel Regional Police said.
Investigators said the victim was at the shelter on Nov. 17, 2023, when the suspect allegedly exposed himself and sexually assaulted them.
On Wednesday, police charged 41-year-old Gairy Stephens of Brampton with sexual assault and committing an indecent act in a public place.
The accused is expected to appear in court on Feb. 12, 2024.
Senior public servant Nathalie Drouin named national security adviser to PM
OTTAWA — Veteran public servant Nathalie Drouin has been named national security and intelligence adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Drouin, deputy clerk of the Privy Council since August 2021, will retain that title when she takes on the new role Jan. 27.
She becomes adviser as the Liberal government ponders significant reform of the legislation governing Canada’s spy service to better address security threats.
Drouin was deputy minister of justice from 2017 to 2021.
