East end power outage leaves approximately 30,000 customers in the dark
A large swath of the east end of the city has been plunged into darkness due to a power outage.
According to Toronto Hydro, more than 20,000 customers were without electricity as of 10:30 p.m. in an area bounded by Lawrence to the north, Woodbine Avenue to the east, Cherry Beach to the south and Jarvis Street to the west.
The utility said in a social media post that the outage was due to a “loss of supply” from Hydro One

Game 1 of CEBL final between Winnipeg and Brampton cancelled due to wet playing surface
The Canadian Elite Basketball League is pivoting on its plans for a three-game championship series after the first game was called off due to unsafe playing conditions.
The Winnipeg Sea Bears and Brampton Honey Badgers opened Game 1 at Brampton’s CAA Centre on Wednesday, but play was suspended early in the first period due to condensation on the court.
The league issued a statement saying it consulted with both teams, game staff officials and venue staff, and decided to cancel the game because the playing surface was unsafe for competition.
Micro-shelter community being built in Scarborough
It’s been a dream years in the making but now Ryan Donais has found a piece of land in Scarborough where he can build a micro-shelter community.
Donais is the Executive Director of Tiny Tiny Homes , a charity that builds mini houses that act as a transitional space allowing individuals to move from the streets into permanent housing.

Another six whales being moved out of Marineland, headed to U.S. aquariums
Marineland began moving on Wednesday a third batch of whales to aquariums outside of Canada.
A team of specialized workers at the shuttered tourist attraction in Niagara Falls, Ont., guided six beluga whales into a custom sling one by one before hoisting them into tanks.
A police-escorted convoy was then set to slowly drive the whales – two males and four females — to Toronto’s Pearson airport, where they are to be loaded onto a plane and flown to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

Oakville enacted a one-year moratorium on new data centres, becoming the first Ontario municipality to take the step as local lawmakers grapple with the concerns surrounding the new wave of facilities powering artificial intelligence.
