Man, 21, facing almost a dozen gun-related charges, second suspect sought
A 21-year-old Toronto man is facing almost a dozen gun-related charges, and police say they are searching for a second person in connection with the investigation.
Investigators say two men were walking in the Driftwood Avenue and Finch Avenue West area around 9:30 p.m. on July 15 when they spotted a police vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit chased after them, and they say they saw one of the men throw away a firearm.
Man critically injured in Mississauga stabbing; youth in custody
A man is in critical condition following a stabbing in Mississauga.
Police in Peel Region say they were called to a home in the Indian Grove and Indian Road area around 3 p.m. Friday.
When they arrived, they found a man with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say one youth has been taken into custody.
Police did not indicate if the two were known to each other, but say they are not searching for any other suspects.

Mosquitoes in Toronto test positive for West Nile virus, public health officials confirm
Toronto Public Health (TPH) says a batch of mosquitoes in the city has tested positive for West Nile virus.
On Friday, officials said the mosquitoes are the first batch to test positive in the area so far this year.
“Every year, TPH conducts mosquito surveillance from mid-June until mid-September and once a week, 22 traps are set across Toronto to collect mosquitoes,” officials wrote in a press release shared Friday. “The mosquitoes are then submitted to a laboratory for identification and testing.

3-vehicle crash in Scarborough sends at least 1 person to hospital

Toronto police are investigating a three-vehicle collision in Scarborough that sent at least one person to a hospital on Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Birchmount Road and McNicoll Avenue just before 12:30 p.m.
Paramedics say three people were transported to a hospital; one person with serious injuries was taken to a trauma centre in stable condition, and two other people were treated for minor injuries.

Convoy organizer Pat King guilty of intimidation, Appeal Court rules
The Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled that “Freedom Convoy” organizer Pat King is guilty of intimidation and has ordered a new sentencing hearing.
King was charged with a number of offences for his leading role in the February 2022 demonstration that gridlocked much of downtown Ottawa for more than three weeks.
He was convicted of five counts, including mischief, counselling mischief and disobeying a court order, and given a 12-month conditional sentence.

Police searching for missing senior last seen in North York
Toronto police are searching for a senior who has been missing since Thursday afternoon.
Authorities are concerned for 79-year-old Maya who went missing from the area of Finch and Victoria Park Avenues at around 4:30 p.m. on July 16.
In a news conference held Friday, investigators said a citizen came forward and reported seeing Maya at night in the Bayview and Cummer Avenues area in North York.
Detectives say the missing woman had a little brown dog with her.

A judge has declared a mistrial in one sexual assault conviction of billionaire businessman Frank Stronach.
In July, Stronach was found guilty on two charges related to two women in a trial involving decades-old sexual assault allegations.
However, on Friday, his lawyer told CityNews the judge has declared a mistrial on the only count of sexual assault.
