Report: Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 20, Fold 2, and new Z Flip on August 5

Rumor mill: If rumors are to be believed, we’re only a couple of months away from Samsung’s next flagship smartphone reveal. On August 5, the company will unveil both the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2, according to several reports.

Prolific Samsung leaker Ice Universe wrote on Weibo that Samsung’s annual Galaxy Unpacked event would take place on August 5 this year—a date that South Korean publication the Dong-a Ilbo agrees with. As one would expect, the Covid-

Nvidia RTX 3080 prototype photographed (with an absurd design)

In a nutshell: A photograph of two RTX 3080 prototypes has been uploaded to the Chiphell forums, which regularly intercept early hardware designs. New GPU releases rarely innovate much on the cooling front. But if this image is real, then Nvidia has something special, or at least especially perplexing, in the works.

The design of this GPU pair is immediately strange. First, there’s one fan on the bottom of the GPU and one fan on the top. Second, the power connector isn’

Using fake crowd noise from NBA 2K video game on live broadcasts would cheapen the experience

Editor's take: I would urge the NBA to reconsider. Play the games in an empty arena and broadcast it as it happens. Basketball is exciting enough that it doesn’t need fake audio to help get it over. Players are used to practicing in fan-free arenas and those watching at home might enjoy hearing the nuances that normally get lost behind crowd noise. Shoes screeching on the hardwood, the swish of the net as a player drains a three-pointer, the thrill of victory and the agony

Riot Games is alpha testing Valorant prototypes on consoles

In context: Porting a PC game to consoles like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch is an effective way for producers to boost their player base, especially for multiplayer online games. But not all PC titles translate well to console play. Disparities in control schemes can make cross-platform play unenjoyable, which raises concerns with Valorant developers as they consider bringing the tactical shooter to the masses.

Despite its comparisons to Overwatch and Counter-Strike, Riot Games' Valorant has proven to be a fun and popular tactical

Summer Games Done Quick 2020 will be online-only this year

Bottom line: With the on-site portion of Summer Games Done Quick now off the table, speedrunners will compete from the confines of their homes and the whole thing will be broadcast over the Internet. The rescheduled in-person event was supposed to take place in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Organizers for Games Done Quick announced on Friday that the summer installment of the speedrunning marathon for charity will now be an online-only event due to the situation surrounding Covid-19.

Summer Games Done Quick 2020 was

Dropbox releases an invite-only password management app

In brief: Dropbox is best known for its convenient file storage solutions, but the company is starting to dip its toes into the password management realm now. Today, Dropbox published its own password management app onto the Google Play Store, aptly named "Dropbox Passwords."

However, there's a catch: the app is invite-only for now. While the general public can download and install it onto their devices, no one can use it without being granted access (presumably a beta key of some kind)

Hulu will no longer work on older Roku players after June 24

The big picture: While we’d all love for hardware to run indefinitely, the truth of the matter is that aging hardware is simply unable to keep up with the demands of evolving software. When it starts to degrade the user experience, companies are left with little choice but to abandon support and focus on newer products.

Hulu later this month with discontinue support for select Roku streaming devices meaning that, if you’re using one of these older media streamers, you’ll need to replace it if you want

Sega reveals 'fog gaming' concept that uses Japanese arcade machines to stream games

In a nutshell: Sega revealed that it is looking into a cloud-gaming service that utilizes an infrastructure it has termed "fog gaming." The concept involves using idle arcade gaming cabinets to serve streaming games to at-home players.

Arcade gaming is still pretty big in Japan. A report by the Japanese Amusement Machine and Manufacturers Association stated there were 15,612 arcades in operation in Japan as of 2016. Sega owns dozens of these gaming centers, and most of the arcade cabinets

Classic RTS game Total Annihilation is free on GOG this weekend

Editor's take: On a personal note, the title holds a special place in my heart as it was perhaps the only RTS game that I ever developed an interest for. I was never very good at it (I don’t think I ever won a single multiplayer match against my friend) but it was loads of fun nevertheless.

One of the greatest real-time strategy games ever created is being offered absolutely free for a limited time courtesy of GOG.com.

Total Annihilation launched in late 19

Apple unsuccessfully invested millions of dollars across several years to replace human labor with robots

Why it matters: Every year, more jobs are lost due to automation, which has many people worried if their occupations will soon become obsolete. However, even a company with deep pockets like Apple has found that while you can automate specific tasks in manufacturing, there are still things that humans are able to do better than expensive robots and that could stay true for the foreseeable future.

Apple is usually very discreet with its projects, but every now and then some of what the company is cooking in its labs transpires and
