Officials still want backdoor into cellphones after cracking two iPhones without help

A hot potato: The US Attorney General and the FBI think that they should be allowed access to any computer device during an investigation. They say that Apple's refusal to break the encryption on the Pensacola shooter's iPhone critically impeded the FBI's investigation.

The US Department of Justice issued a press release on Monday detailing information that the FBI had discovered on the phone of Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani. Alshamrani was the shooter who killed three and injured eight others at the Naval Air Station Pensacola on December 6, 2

Texas court holds its first virtual jury trial

In context: Though Covid-19 is winding down in some areas (for now), it still poses a threat. As such, many corporations and governments have made changes to the way they operate to help mitigate its spread and reduce the risk of infection. Whether that's instituting work-from-home policies on the corporate side, or practicing social distancing during local government meet-ups and lawmaking sessions, everybody (for the most part) is doing their best to combat the virus.

Sega's Genesis Mini returns to Black Friday pricing

In a nutshell: Sega’s Genesis Mini is one of the better retro consoles out there and for a limited time, it can again be had at Black Friday pricing. The system wasn’t perfect – the inclusion of a three-button controller instead of the six-button variant is a kick in the gut for fighting game aficionados, the overly sensitive UI could use some tweaks and rubberized feet would have helped the console stay put – but Sega absolutely nailed the look at feel of the miniature chassis.

Take a trip down memory lane with this virtual collection of big box PC games

Recap: Big boxes like these were the norm in the earlier days of PC gaming but by the early 2000s, manufacturers switched to smaller CD jewel cases. With digital now the preferred distribution method for the gaming industry, it’s rare to see a physical release outside of limited run collector’s editions that charge extra for goodies that used to come standard.

Video game box illustration is a bit of a lost art. Years ago, the physical retail package that a game came in was arguably

TSMC has halted new orders from Huawei in response to new US export controls

A hot potato: If Huawei didn't have too much trouble avoiding the effects of the US entity list before, now it's lost its main chip supplier for mobile devices. The company says it'll weather the storm, but warned that it's ultimately suppliers who will suffer the most as a result of overly restrictive US export rules.

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has officially halted new chip orders from Huawei after the US introduced tighter export rules for suppliers that make use of American technology

Your smartphone could detect Covid-19 infections using this sensor

Forward-looking: A shortage of testing kits has been a significant problem for several countries trying to track and trace the spread of Covid-19, but a new project could produce a smartphone-powered sensor that detects the virus by blowing on it.

In addition to there not being enough tests to go around, the procedure to check for Covid-19 has been called invasive and uncomfortable—it involves a swab being used to collect mucus from the back of a person’s

Minecraft extends lead as best-selling game of all time

The big picture: Minecraft wasn’t simply an overnight success for Microsoft. The game was already immensely popular when Microsoft scooped it up and they’ve continued to steadily invest in the IP over the years to build it into the powerhouse that it is today.

Microsoft’s landmark $2.5 billion acquisition of Minecraft creator Mojang (now Mojang Studios) in 2014 was viewed by many to be an ill-advised overstep at the time but over the years, Microsoft has proven that it was
