Intel tweets a photo of the biggest and weirdest GPU ever made

What just happened? Intel has posted a perplexing image of an enormous socket-based graphics processor. No one had any idea what it was until Intel’s Raja Koduri called it the “father of all.” That’s an in-house name for a specific Xe GPU. Intel Xe is an upcoming series of GPUs encompassing every market you can imagine.

This graphics processor is strange. As you can see from the image, from the outside it’s more like a CPU than a GPU. It

The big picture: Twitter usage has spiked just like it did for other big platforms, as more people are flocking to it to keep up with news updates. However, CEO Jack Dorsey is on shaky ground with key investors, who allowed him to keep his position on the promise that he would drive user and revenue growth -- this will become increasingly difficult in the coming quarters.

Twitter says it now has 166 million daily active users, a healthy 24 percent increase from the 134 million it

Gigabyte: Intel Z490 motherboards will support 11th-gen Core Rocket Lake CPUs

In context: Intel scrapped plans to offer PCIe 4.0 support with Comet Lake-S CPUs, opting instead to deliver that with Rocket Lake in 2021. Now we know that this won't come with the need for a different motherboard, which clears some of the confusion associated with manufacturers describing some of their Z490 motherboards as "PCIe 4.0 ready."

Intel's latest 10th generation Comet Lake-S CPUs are going to be rather power-hungry ,

Valve drops SteamVR support on macOS

In context: Apple's macOS isn't exactly a hub of VR activity, but users have nonetheless had access to SteamVR since support was added back in 2017. However, Macs have never been known for their gaming capabilities, and that's especially true for VR gaming. Without the use of an external GPU, most reasonably-priced Macs simply don't have the resources to effectively power high-end VR titles and headsets.

Perhaps as a result of this, Valve yesterday announced that

Online multiplayer returns to the original Star Wars: Battlefront via a surprise Steam update

In brief: Typically, when a game is as old as the original Star Wars: Battlefront, users don't expect much in the way of updates years down the line. Indeed, in many cases, aging games tend to lose features as multiplayer servers shut down and official support grinds to a halt. However, for one reason or another, Battlefront received an unexpected update today that might just revive its multiplayer scene.

Star Wars: Battlefront lost proper multiplayer gameplay with the closure of GameSpy many years ago. Today

Slack thinks Microsoft Teams is not its competition, but wait...

In context: Teleconferencing apps have seen huge growth in recent months. With schools and enterprises continuing to keep their brick-and-mortar offices closed, apps like Zoom, Slack, and Microsoft Teams have prospered as companies and organizations turn to them to keep the gears of commerce turning. The competition is fierce with productivity providers at each other's throats, particularly Slack and Microsoft.

According to Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield, Microsoft Teams is not a competitor to Slack. He feels that the larger corporation has not proven that

Walmart Express Delivery launches with 2-hour grocery delivery service

Bottom line: Walmart in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic fast-tracked the rollout of a new service that delivers orders to customers’ doorsteps in less than two hours. It'll cost you $10 each time you use it but for many, it could be money well spent in order to save time.

The big box retailer has been testing its new Express Delivery service in 100 stores since mid-April, offering customers an expedited delivery option on more than 160,

Games industry heads organize four-month Summer Game Fest starting this month

Why it matters: With virtually all industry events having been canceled or switching to online formats, the way companies have been presenting new games and content to players has changed. Many are choosing to hold their own live streams, which is fine, but it's not the same as big events like E3, where its a smorgasbord of various offerings. It's lost the competitive glitz and one-upmanship that these tradeshows brought.

To make up for the lack of true industry gatherings, Geoff Keighley has come

Reddit backtracks, removes chat room feature after just one day

What just happened? Reddit’s attempt to strike while the iron is hot backfired in this instance. Rather than fully vet the chat room feature with a beta test among a large subset of communities with an opt-in clause, the platform rushed the feature to market and ticked off a lot of users / mods in the process.

It took roughly 24 hours for Reddit to rethink its latest move and ultimately roll back the new chat room feature it debuted earlier this week.

In a statement issued to The Verge
